Another Form of Relief was originally envisioned in January 2006. Its founder, Eddie Jennings, stumbled onto mp3 blogs several months earlier and thought it looked like a fun thing to do, particularly after growing bored of the regular kind of blogging. After about a month of planning, AFoR was eventually launched on February 26 with a small post about The Young Republic. For the first couple of weeks, updates were patchy as the design and format were tweaked, eventually settling in it's current form around mid-march. Original proposals to have the blog also focus on film, television and literature with a team of contributors when hardly anyone could be convinced to help.

There is no real structure to what is posted on AFoR, although primarily posts consist of small profiles of artists that deserve more of an audience. Littered between these posts are regular posts made up of covers, rarities (mostly b-sides or the odd rare live set), the occasional "mixtape" and when we're feeling really crazy, a run of themed posts.
